01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

La Barandica is a true gem nestled in the historic heart of Cehegín, Murcia—a charming tapas bar that embodies the very essence of authentic Spanish dining. As you wander through the narrow, winding lanes of the old town, this small terrace bar, perched at a sharp intersection, invites you to experience local flavors served with genuine warmth and efficiency.

The charm of La Barandica lies not only in its intimate setting but in its masterful tapas offerings that perfectly capture the rich culinary heritage of Murcia. Each dish bursts with vibrant, fresh ingredients—think succulent Argentinian steak, creamy goat cheese paired with luscious tomato confit, smoky sausages, tender grilled vegetables, delicately fried calamari, and plump, juicy prawns. These are not just meals; they are a celebration of local produce and time-honored recipes that awaken your palate with every bite.

What truly elevates the experience here is the harmonious pairing of these quality tapas with carefully selected local wines. Guests consistently praise the affordability, with bottles of regional wine available for as little as 6-7 euros, making each visit feel like a rare find rather than an everyday outing. The service is swift and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere that complements the bustling yet cozy terrace vibe.

The warm reviews from visitors speak volumes. Gábor Némethi highlights the unbeatable quality of both the food and wine, amazed by how affordable this top-notch experience is. Carlos Lorenzo praises its status as one of the best tapas bars in town, emphasizing the bar's strategic yet charming location and rapid service. Elena A echoes this sentiment, enthusiastically recommending standout dishes while appreciating the accessible English menu and excellent value. Filip DV and Ulrika Verrells both describe La Barandica as an unexpected delight—one that rewards those willing to embrace a slow, scenic walk through Cehegín’s historical lanes rather than drive. Ulrika even shares that it’s among her favorite places worldwide, praising the rare blend of superb food, genuine hospitality, and genuine Spanish atmosphere.

Whether you're visiting for work or leisure, La Barandica offers an unforgettable culinary escape. It’s a place full of sensory delights where each tapa, sip of wine, and smile from the staff combine to create something truly special—a heartfelt reminder of why Spain’s tapas culture continues to captivate food lovers around the globe.

For an authentic taste of Murcia, tucked within the soul of Cehegín’s old town, La Barandica stands ready to welcome you with open arms, savory delights, and a glass raised in celebration of local tradition.

A very good tapas bar (in a very nice little town with long history) Quality tapas, quality local(!) wine, and if I say 'affordable', it's a massive understatement;)

One of the best tapas bars in town. If you ever visit the fields of Murcia, for work or leisure, and you happen to stop at Cehegin, do not miss the chance to try the exquisite offer of the local restaurants, especially those in the old part of the village. La Barandica, is a small terrace bar at the sharp intersection of two streets in the upper part of town, thus the name perhaps. Service is fast and there you have an excellent choice of tapas, from fried cheese to local embutidos (sausage, morcilla). Fresh tomatoes, probably picked up in.the morning nearby, fresh seafood (yes, these towns have incredibly good seafood in spite of being far away from the sea, surely because Murcia has perhaps the biggest float of trucks in Spain so nothing is far enough). I tried the marineras which is a base of potato salad on a circular breadstick covered with two anchovies. Delicious. Mohama and huevas is good too (dried tuna and tuna roe).

One word: excellent! We’ve been a few times and we’ve always been very pleased! The tapas are very delicious and reasonably priced. Recommending: Argentinian steak , goats cheese and tomato confit, sausages, grilled veg, calamari, prawns...each around 2-3 euros. The service is good and the wine is very affordable(a bottle around 6-7 euros, and it’s local). Menu in English too. Note: they don’t do reservations and it can get very busy, so make sure you’re early.

Probably one of my favourite places to eat in the whole world! It's hard to find and don't attempt to drive up, but well worth the walk up the narrow lanes of the old town. It's very small and popular, so do reserve a table unless you're prepared to wait. The food and wine is so good and very cheap and the service is friendly and efficient. What an absolute gem, so rare to find such genuinely Spanish place anywhere nowadays.

Wonderful Spanish cuisine experience at a very affordable price! I did not expect to eat such good in a small town. I highly recommend to everyone that visits Cehegin to try this amazing restaurant even though you have to wait for their turn for a table!
